SXSW CANCELLATION A wave of disruptions to air travel following the
coronavirus epidemic has led to an 80% drop in
Economics traffic at China’s busiest airports. WSJ explains
why some analysts expect the impact on the glob-
al aviation industry could be greater than that of
SARS or 9/11.
Most workers in the hotel and hospitality arena
make most of their earnings during the festival. You
look at the food truckers, chauffeurs, car service, wait-
ers, bartenders, concierges, security, lawyers, account-
ants, and some wry jokes that it hurts quotas for cops
who bust more drunken party-goers and during the
festival than the rest of the year.
The mobile app, Foursquare, was launched at SXSW
2009.
While most well-off people thought it was a good
idea to cancel the festival; the middle class and working
class people, especially college students and recent
graduates are devastated, angry, heartbroken, and wor-
ried about their rent, car note, student loan payments,
and other living expenses.
For one struggling actor, it's definitely going to be
the challenge for his acting career. He said he couldn't
even afford to take photos or pay his acting lessons and
singing lessons let along pay his rent and utilities for
the next 6 months, so he might have to go back to living
in his parents garage until he can save up enough mon-
ey to come back to Austin and try to pursue his child-
hood dream of being a working actor and/or musician.
